October 29 - Conference successfully closed

The second International Conference on 3D Body Scanning Technologies was successfully closed on the evening of 26th October 2011.

205 participants from 28 different countries attended the two days conference in Lugano, Switzerland.

The 12 technical sessions, with 60 technical and scientific presentations, were well attended. The topics discussed regarded: medical scanning systems, medical applications, body scanning for apparel, garment draping simulation, digital anthropometry, applications in health and sport, scanning technologies, body scanning systems and others.

The conference was accompanied by an exhibition where 15 manufactures were presenting and demonstrating their body scanning systems. The major technologies were represented: laser scanning, white-light scanning, active and passive photogrammetry, kinect scanning, application software. The application sectors were also various, from apparel to medicine, from entertainment to biometry and others.

Two invited speeches and one keynote presentations were held at the conference: Prof. Dr. Thomas Vetter from the University of Basel (Switzerland), Mr Chris Lane, CEO of 3dMD (USA) and Mr Thabo Beeler from Disney Research Zurich (Switzerland). Additionally, five manufacturers had chosen this event to present and announce world premieres.

The conference confirmed also this year to be the most important international event for the sector of 3D body scanning technology.

Compared to last year, the number of attendees remained stable and, regardless of the present economical crisis and the strengh of the Swiss francs against other currencies, the number of exhibitors doubled. In any other conference, trade fair, exhibition, were so many different body scanning systems exhibited in the same place.
